This website is dedicated to the poet Kate Harrington who throughout her lifetime created a large amount of literary work that is an impressive collection of women's writing from the 1800's. Kate Harrington, born Rebecca Harrington Smith, grew up in the mid-west of the United States in the 1800's. She lived in the states of Pennsylvania, Ohio, Kentucky, and Iowa where she did the majority of her writing. She was a teacher, a writer and a poet. Her poems and writings are a great example of the literature that came from women at the time of the American Civil War and from that time period. Many of her works were published in that time period. She published a graded series of literature readers that heavily contributed to the field of reading. Her readers were used by every state in the Union. Her poetry, writings, and readers contributed to the reading and writing of the 1800's and she shall not be forgotten. [1]
