While reading the poems of Kate Harrington and doing the research I at first found very little on her. I found her one poem, Secret Love in the Periodicals and enjoyed the use of rhyme and meter. I chose her poem thinking it was a great representation of women writing from that time period. At the beginning of making this website I found little to no information about her through my research using Secret Love. When I searched her again in the Periodicals I found a poem by her called He Doeth All Things Well. This poem led to much more information on her. I realized that I had mistakenly found someone who had made a great impact on writing and reading in the 1800's. Many of her poems are the a great representation of women poets of her time and she shows to be very intelligent through her writing. As a teacher and a writer, she also showed her true greatness at the skill. I think as a poet she is one that should not be forgotten, because even though it is not well documented, she changed what reading was in that time through her schoolroom readers that were spread throughout the Union. Her writings are something that any women can relate to at any time, making all her works timeless. They are on topics that can be related to by all and are very important. Getting an inside look at the idea of love from different angles by a women from that time is fascinating. This poet was a great find, and I was genuinely shocked at how lucky I was in finding her.
